Uttara University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 28, 2025, with PETman, a tech-driven initiative dedicated to building a sustainable and circular waste management ecosystem in Bangladesh. The partnership aims to establish an integrated PET-based recycling system on campus, promote environmental sustainability and enhance student engagement through hands-on learning, research and awareness programs.

The MoU was signed at Uttara University’s Permanent Campus in the presence of key officials from both institutions. The agreement was formally signed by Shuvo Mandal Debashish, Founder & CEO of PETman and Kazi Mahiuddin, Registrar of Uttara University. The signing was witnessed by Shahriyar Hasan, Co-Founder & CBO; KM Nowajash Noman, Chief Operating Officer of PETman; Mohammad Ali, Controller of Examinations and In-Charge of External Affairs, UU; and Sheikh Yasha Shan, Director of the Institutional Ranking Cell (IRC), UU.

Under this collaboration, PETman will install plastic bottle collection units across the campus, ensure efficient collection and recycling of plastic waste and conduct workshops, training sessions and awareness campaigns. They will also offer internship, volunteering and project-based opportunities for students, along with quarterly data-based impact reports.

Uttara University will facilitate campus access for the placement of collection units, support student participation, collaborate on research and innovation initiatives and promote the partnership through its communication channels. Various departments, clubs and administrative units will be engaged to ensure campus-wide participation.

The partnership also outlines joint responsibilities such as organizing sustainability-focused events and competitions, publishing case studies and research outputs and maintaining transparency and accountability in operations.

The MoU establishes comprehensive recycling policies for the campus, including waste segregation at source, installation of color-coded bins, regular collection and safe storage of recyclables and maintaining compliance with hygiene, safety and ISO 14001 guidelines. It also encourages the use of recycled materials and adoption of circular economy practices in university operations.

The agreement will remain valid for 24 months from the date of signing, reaffirming both institutions’ commitment to advancing environmental sustainability and responsible waste management in higher education.
