It has come to the attention of the University Authority that some faculty members have been smoking cigarettes in different areas of the University premises, particularly around the outdoor air-conditioning (A/C) unit areas in every floor, staircases on the upper floor, and toilets.
The University Authority considers such activities to be inappropriate and inconsistent with the standards of professionalism, discipline, and a healthy academic environment expected from all faculty members.
In this regard, smoking of any kind is strictly prohibited throughout the University campus and premises. All Full-Time (FT) and Part-Time (PT) faculty members are hereby instructed to strictly refrain from smoking in any area within the University premises, including but not limited to:
- University building and office areas;
- Staircases and corridors;
- Outdoor A/C unit areas and other open spaces within the campus;
- Toilets and washroom areas;
- Areas adjacent to offices, classrooms, laboratories, and other facilities; and
- Any other location within the University premises.
Any faculty member found smoking within the University campus, irrespective of the location, will be subject to strict disciplinary action in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations of the University. Depending on the nature and circumstances of the violation, the concerned faculty member may be issued a show-cause notice and/or subjected to other appropriate disciplinary measures.
All Full-Time and Part-Time faculty members are therefore requested to strictly comply with this instruction and extend their cooperation in maintaining a healthy, professional, clean, and smoke-free academic environment at Uttara University.
This notice shall be effective immediately.
