Chairman's Message

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Department of Physical Education, Uttara University (UU), Bangladesh, is the first in the country to offer two programs: Bachelor of Physical Education and Master of Physical Education. We have made great strides in providing quality education, offering unique learning opportunities for students, and meeting the challenges of growing demands. We have talented and ambitious students, as well as skilled faculty members. We are especially looking forward to the future with great anticipation and excitement. Department Overview

The Department of Physical Education at Uttara University offers a one-year (two semesters) Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) program and a one-year (two semesters) Master of Physical Education (MPEd) program. The total credit requirement for the BPEd is 44 credit hours. The program consists of 12 theoretical courses, of which 10 are core courses (23 credit hours), and 2 are General Education (GED) courses (6 credit hours), along with seven practical courses (15 credit hours), conducted both in the classroom and in the field. This program provides modern concepts of physical education, preparing BPEd graduates for employment in professional bodies and educational institutions, such as universities and higher secondary and secondary levels. Upon completion of the program, students may pursue an MPEd and other related higher degrees to expand and enrich their knowledge and skills in physical education, building careers as professionals, academicians, and researchers.

The courses emphasise fundamental skills development, social contribution, critical thinking, and personal development in Health, Physical Education, and Sports Science. They typically feature a strong focus on experimentation, methods, demonstration, communication, and interacting effectively to share ideas and experiences with the community and work individually or as part of a team in a professional capacity.

Mission

The Department of Physical Education is a centre of excellence for the execution of research in sports science and time-effective teaching initiatives in physical education by fostering the moral, emotional, behavioural, social and academic development of youth to contribute nationally and internationally.

Vision

The programs enable students to apply content knowledge, pedagogy, research, skills, and professional dispositions by creating learning environments in Physical Education and Sports Science.

Medium of Instruction

Uttara University offers all the courses of study primarily in English. Teachers provide instruction to students in the classroom in English. English is also widely used as a medium of communication among the faculties, students, and administrative officials.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

The educational objectives of the BPEd program are to ensure that graduates are fundamentally strong, physically and mentally fit, practical, dependable, and professional. Successful graduates will meet the following educational objectives.

PEO1: A broader knowledge base in physical education and sports studies;

PEO2: Leadership skills to utilize in the field of physical education and sports;

PEO3: An ability to research the field of physical education and sports;

PEO4: A conceptual perception of issues affecting the future of sports and physical education in Bangladesh.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

After the completion of the B. P. Ed program students will be able to

PLO 1: familiar with modern concepts of physical education and sports;

PLO 2: recognize their personal cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development;

PLO 3: interpret basic physiological systems;

PLO 4: prepare an effective lesson plan to administer classes;

PLO 5: apply coaching methods to prepare school athletes’ competitions;

PLO 6: prepare and implement sports budget for institutions;

PLO 7: organise intramural and extramural games and sports;

PLO 8: develop the human condition's body, mind, and behavioural aspects.

Admission Requirements (Undergraduate)

Structure of the Curriculum

a) Duration of the Program: Year: 1 Semester: 2

b) Admission Requirements: Graduates (B.A/B.S.S/B.Com/B.B.S/B.Sc, B.Ag.) or holders of a Master of Social Science/Arts, Physical/Biological Science, with at least one-second division from S.S.C. to degree level, are eligible to apply. This condition will be relaxed for serving teachers with M.P.O. Additionally, candidates must be physically and mentally fit. They must qualify for both the written test and viva. The maximum age is 35 for non-teachers and 40 for teachers with M.P.O. If a potential student has a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience or six years of athletic experience at the national level, they will also be considered for the BPEd program.

c) Total Class Weeks in a Year: : 28 Weeks in a Year / 14 Weeks in a Semester (Excluding other activities and assessment).

The total number of courses required for awarding a BPEd degree is 19, and the total credits are 44.

d) Minimum CGPA requirements for graduation: CGPA 2.0

e) Maximum Academic Year of Completion: Within (1+2)= 3 academic years.

  3. Core Practical Course: 7 Courses

g) Year/ Level/ Semester/ Term wise courses: Spring Semester : (January - June) and Fall Semester : (July - December)

Admission Requirements (Graduate)

Structure of the Curriculum

a) Duration of the Program: Year: 1 Semester: 2

b) Admission Requirements: GStudents can be admitted to the MPEd program if they have obtained a minimum of a second class or a CGPA of 2.25 in their BPEd. Age: Up to 40 for non-teachers and 45 for teachers. A potential student with a minimum of 6 years of athletic experience at the national level will be considered for the MPEd program. Total class weeks in a year: 28 weeks per semester / 14 weeks per semester (excluding other activities and assessments). The total number of courses required for awarding an MPEd degree is 14, and the total credits are 42.

c) Minimum CGPA requirements for graduation: CGPA 2.0

d) Maximum Academic Year of Completion: Within (1+2)= 3 academic years.
