Uttara University organized Smaraney July ’24 at its Multipurpose Hall on Monday, 3 August 2026, to commemorate the sacrifices of the July 2024 Movement, honor the courage of its martyrs and injured heroes, and reaffirm the university’s commitment to preserving the spirit, history and values of the movement for future generations.

The program commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Sheikh Yasha Shan, Director of the Institutional Ranking Cell (IRC), followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Shah Ahmed, Director of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA). Bobby Hajjaj, Honourable State Minister for Primary and Mass Education, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, joined the program as Chief Guest through a recorded video message. In his video message, Chief Guest Bobby Hajjaj said, “Just as the students of Uttara University stood for democracy in the past and played a huge role in the July movement, you will likewise work toward democratic governance, a progressive Bangladesh and a people-centric nation in the days to come. My best wishes to everyone.” The program was also attended by the university’s Treasurer, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Deans, faculty members, administrative officials and other staff.

A major highlight of the program was the unveiling of the commemorative souvenir book, Lekha Achhey Oshrujoley, followed by the presentation of commemorative crests and copies of the souvenir book to selected recipients.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha said, “Only an educated person can present the truth before everyone. You must work to stand against injustice in order to uphold justice, and fulfill your duties and responsibilities toward your motherland with utmost sincerity.” 

The event also featured a presentation by Prof. Dr A.S.M. Shahabuddin, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), explaining the methodology behind preparing the commemorative list. A series of micro-documentaries highlighting the experiences of Uttara University students during the July 2024 Movement was screened, followed by live reflections from several students. 

The program concluded with a special prayer led by Prof. Dr Mirza Golam Rabbani, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the July martyrs. Through Smaraney July ’24, Uttara University reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the history of the July Movement and honoring those whose sacrifices continue to inspire the nation.
