On 27 July 2026, Uttara University officially inaugurated VC Sports Week 2026, the university’s largest interdepartmental sporting event to date. Organised by the Sports Club of Uttara University under the Office of Student Affairs, the week-long tournament has brought together 540 student-athletes representing various academic departments in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition. The event has been dedicated to the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, in recognition of her unwavering commitment to student development, leadership, and the promotion of sporting excellence.

The grand opening ceremony commenced with a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented to the Honourable Vice Chancellor, followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran (Tilawat), a ceremonial balloon release, and an energetic march past by the participating teams. Faculty members, university officials, and students gathered to witness the vibrant inauguration, reflecting the institution’s strong commitment to fostering a dynamic sporting culture on campus.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mr. Abid Aziz, Honourable Member of the Board of Trustees, Uttara University, as the Chief Guest. Among the distinguished guests were Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Honourable Vice Chancellor, the deans, chairpersons, faculty members, administrative officials, and students. Addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Mr. Abid Aziz encouraged the participating athletes to embrace discipline, teamwork, mutual respect, and leadership through sports. He emphasized that sporting events not only promote physical fitness but also cultivate resilience, integrity, and lifelong friendships among students.

In her inaugural address, Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Uttara University, highlighted the importance of balancing academic excellence with physical well-being and extracurricular engagement. Formally declaring VC Sports Week 2026 open, she said, “At Uttara University, we believe that education extends beyond academics. Through sports, our students learn leadership, resilience, teamwork and qualities that shape future leaders. I wish every participant a memorable and rewarding Sports Week filled with determination and sportsmanship.”

Following the conclusion of the opening ceremony and the ceremonial march past, tournament fixtures commenced across the designated venues from 1:00 PM. Throughout the week, participants will compete in six disciplines: Cricket, Football, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, and Table Tennis, showcasing their talent, determination and team spirit.

VC Sports Week 2026 reflects Uttara University’s continued commitment to providing a vibrant campus life that extends beyond academics. By encouraging participation in sports and extracurricular activities, the university remains dedicated to nurturing well-rounded graduates equipped with leadership qualities, discipline and a strong sense of community.
