Uttara University signs MoU with Institut Kesenian Jakarta

Uttara University (UU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ), Indonesia, marking another significant step in its ongoing efforts to strengthen international academic partnerships and foster global engagement.

The MoU was signed on behalf of Uttara University by Mr Abid Aziz, Honorable Member, Board of Trustees, and Sheikh Yasha Shan, Director, Office of the Institutional Ranking Cell. The agreement establishes a framework for long-term collaboration in student and faculty mobility, joint research, curriculum development, academic resource sharing and cross-cultural engagement.

The signing ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Syamsul Maarif, M.Eng., Dipl.Ing., DEA, Rector of Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ), Dr. Ika Yuni Purnama, M.Hum., Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Community Services, along with the senior academic leaders, reaffirming both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing international academic collaboration. The event was also graced by Prof. (Hon.) Dr. Fadli Zon, M.Sc., Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, and Gita Wirjawan, former Minister of Trade of Indonesia (2011–2014), whose presence underscored the significance of strengthening international cooperation in higher education, arts and cultural exchange.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Abid Aziz said, “This partnership with Institut Kesenian Jakarta reflects our commitment to expanding global academic collaboration and creating meaningful opportunities for our students and faculty. We look forward to a productive partnership that advances innovation, research and international engagement.”

The collaboration was initiated through proactive coordination between the two institutions ahead of the formal signing of the agreement. Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ) is one of Indonesia’s premier higher education institutions dedicated to the arts, widely recognized for nurturing generations of accomplished artists, filmmakers, performers, designers and creative professionals. Established in 1970, the institute has earned a strong reputation for excellence in fine arts, performing arts, film and television and design education. IKJ plays a vital role in advancing Indonesia’s creative industries through artistic innovation, cultural preservation, and international collaboration. Its commitment to creativity, interdisciplinary learning and cultural exchange closely aligns with Uttara University’s vision of fostering globally engaged and innovative graduates.
