Today, on 3 March 2025, one of my beloved former students and colleagues, Dr. Bidyut K. Talukdar, Associate Professor and Graduate Director of the Economics Program in the School of Business, Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary's University, Canada delivered his presentation on Higher studies in Canada in general and Sobey Business School, Saint Mary's University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. We are in the process of signing an MOU to collaborate between UU and SMU in Student and faculty exchange, research collaboration, and other initiatives of mutual benefit to the two vibrant organizations. Dr. Bidyut was a SUST graduate and got his MA in Economics from the University of Manitoba and PhD in Economics from Macmaster University, Canada. He primarily works in the area of Dynamic General Equilibrium Modeling in the context of Monetary Policy and teaches at Business School in Finance Program and Economics. Thank you, Dr. Bidyut, for visiting us. Honorable Cofounder of UU and VC Madam Professor Dr. Eaysmin Ara Lekha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, and Prof. S M Arifuzzaman, SOB, UU, organized the event. The program was attended by a lot of faculty members, senior students, and lecturers, especially those who would like to pursue their higher studies in Canada. Dr. Bidyut gave them enough guidance and encouragement and promised to help them with generous scholarship support. |

My favorite place of birth is our sweet traditional village home at Moulvibazar, which always reminds me of my roots. I left home in the year 1985 and could not come back due to my academic and professional career. My wife, Anima Goswami, has skillfully decorated the flower garden with care. Today I had a long meeting with the renowned economist of our country Professor Dr. Enamul Haque at his office at BIDS, Agargao, Dhaka. We discussed matters of Bangladesh and Global Trade Issues and mutual collaboration. It is to be noted that he has recently been appointed as the DG of BIDS, the hub of all brilliant economists who provide policy guidance to Government in an objective and impartial way. Good luck with Prof Enam and thank you so much for your warm hospitality and positive outlook about the development issues. |

I was so happy to meet Mr. M. A. Kashem, Chairman of South East Bank, Former Chairman, BOT, NSU, and former President FBCCI in a Gunijon Sombhordhona at Radisson Blu Hotel today to commemorate the great contribution of M. Saifur Rahman, the Pilllar of privatization and market economic reform in Bangladesh and former Finance Minister. I have learned a lot from him regarding how to manage academic administration in a private university during my job at NSU (2003-2024). I pray to the almighty for Kashem sir's long and healthy life. He is a man of wisdom and 100% secular as a human being, while also highly pious. My current supervisor, UU VC and co-founder Professor Eaysmin Ara Lekha, also highly praised Kashem Sir. NSU is at this stage of take-off because of the hard work and dedication of this kind of great soul. Photo Credit: Belal Ahmed, Former Director, PR, NSU. |
We all have the same destiny like the falling Sun of 31st December 2024 at Cox'sbazar, Bangladesh, The World. Trillions of species like Gour and Anima have the same destiny. Good luck to all the living species in the universe. The universe can absorb all no matter whether we are good or bad. |
Today, I was invited to moderate a session on “Economic and Trade Connections” organized jointly by China-South Asia Center for Sociocultural Studies (CSCSS), NSU and Yunan University, China. Three research papers have been presented by the researchers from Bangladesh and China (1:30 pm-3:00 pm). It is to be noted that I do extensive research on trade modeling in general and BRI is my current research topic in particular. I have found that BRI is export reducing but import enhancing in two alternative scenarios. Gour Gobinda Goswami, Pro-VC, Uttara University |
Today at 900 AM we attended the concluding online meeting with Krishi Gobeshona Foundation (KGF) funded NSU-UWA, Australia, Curtin University., Australia, Bangladesh Agricultural University project on “Adoption and Diffusion of Agricultural Technologies in Bangladesh (2021-2024). The project size was Two Crores BDT. Thanks to its PI Prof. Dr. Nazrul Islam and his team members for doing a great job. I served as Co investigator of this project. We used mixed method in the research. As an output of the project, we have established agri business center for NSU, which will last forever as a prominent center for business school. It was a fascinating learning experience for me. Three students got fully funded scholarship for higher studies from the project. Many more are coming. |
When I left NSU in January 2024 for Uttara University for taking up the responsibility of Pro-VC two students of mine were crying: 1. Mostafizur Rahman; 2. Meshbahul Hasan Chowdhury Mousum. None of them were aligned with my faith or region. None of them earned 4.00 GPA. I took it as a blessing from my last 32 years of teaching at Univ. I held many administrative positions in my short life but all are temporary. Teaching gives me immense pleasure all the time. This is my passion. If I ever go back to teaching from admin in future this would be my passion for profession. I have received so much out of it which tends to infinity. I would convey my gratitude to all my students, teachers, and colleagues who made my profession enjoyable throughout 1992-2024. |
